ITANAGAR, Sep 25: The 2nd edition of ‘Donyi Polo Cricket Academy Tournament’ for ‘Running T20 Champion Trophy’ commenced at the IG Park here today, as Itanagar Cricket Club Blue (Mithun) thrashed ICC Green (Hornbill) by 9 wickets in the inaugural match.  

The tournament was kicked off by Itanagar Cricket Association (ICA) president Taba Techi in presence of Tawang District Cricket Association secretary Sonam Tenzing and Arunachal Cricket Association (ACA) chief selector (2021-22) Lokam Garga.

In the opening match, ICC Green team Captain Er Kengo Bam won the toss and elected to bat first. The team set a target of 107 runs losing seven wickets. Bam scored the highest 27 runs off 34 balls, Biki Kumar made 17 runs (22 balls), while Mapu Yigam, Vipin Yadav, Bamang Chungnia and Suraj Tayam contributed 14 ,13,11 and 10 runs.

For the ICC Blue, Captain Neelam Obi took 3 wickets, Tanmai Paul captured 2 wickets and Hage Tama one.

Chasing the target, Song Tacho came up with an unbeaten knock of 61 runs off 53 balls, Obi contributed 20 runs and Shaik S made 15 not out.

Obi was declared man of the match for his all-round performance.

In the second match, ICC (Green) again won the toss and elected to bat first. The team managed to put a total of 90 runs on board.

Kumar hit 22 runs (23 balls), Vipin Yadav contributed 17 (10 balls) and Bamang Chungnia 13 (18 balls). Rajesh Kumar and Tayam also contributed 12 and 10 runs.

For the ICC Blue, Kale Cheda took 4 wickets, Obi and Chandan Kr Singh claimed one wicket each. Migo Ada and Obi’s outstanding fielding created two run outs of ICC (Green) - Bam & Firoz Shah which led them to a low total.

In reply, all top order batsmen of ICC Blue failed to convert their good starts. But the lower/middle order played an important role leading the team to an easy win for the second straight time.

For the winning team, Cheda made a breezy unbeaten15 ball-32, Ada scored 20 (25 balls), Singh18 (26 balls) and Rava Joni contributed 15 (16 balls).

For the ICC Green, Bam took 2 wickets, Bikram Gurung, Mapu Yigam and Shah got one wicket each.

Cheda was awarded as man of the match for his all-round performance.
