AAMTF proposes obsolete vehicles scrapping

ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The All Arunachal Motor Transport Federation (AAMTF) has proposed scrapping of outdated transport vehicles plying on the roads.

The Federation, in a memorandum to the Chief Minister, stated that there are many transport vehicles as old as 15 to 20 years and urged the government to provide 50 percent subsidy to the operators of such obsolete transports for purchasing new vehicles to replace them providing loan facility through a nationalized bank.

The AAMTF, in its memo, also demanded establishment of a Transport Workers’ Welfare Board in the state, reduction of insurance rate of commercial vehicles by 50 percent, providing subsidy on petroleum products for private transport workers, and construction of rest houses near the national highway for commercial transporters, especially truck drivers.
