As part of SWM plan framework, ‘door to door awareness program’ begins in Basar urban area

BASAR, Sep 4: In pursuance of the resolution drawn in the 3rd governing body meeting of the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) under the chairmanship of Leparada Deputy Commissioner Atul Tayeng, the DUDA in collaboration with ICDS, District Police, ArSRLM, Sector in-charge Henrik Basar, SHGs and other stakeholders organized a door to door awareness programme on ‘handling of solid waste/segregation of waste at source, at the Gori Complex here today.

The governing body of DUDA was constituted under the chairmanship of DC Leparada with Dept of UD & H as the nodal department to draw a framework for the implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) Plan in Basar urban area.

In this connection, the awareness programme on solid waste management (SWM) plan to be implemented in Basar urban area got started on a pilot basis.

During the programme, the DC spoke at length about the significance of segregation of waste at source for effective management of solid waste in the town. He urged every stakeholder to take active participation in this awareness programme and become an ardent contributor in the endeavour of making Basar town one of the best in the State in terms of cleanliness and hygiene.

Nodal Officer Nabam Kai, EE (UD&H) and Bomi Nyorak, EE (PHED) Basar Division also spoke as the resource persons.

The day ended with the distribution of two separate dustbins in green (biodegradable waste) and blue (non-biodegradable waste/plastic) colours to each household of Gori Complex, Basar for proper segregation of waste at source.

The programme also had a convergence of activities. District Police, ICDS, ArSRLM and other stakeholders also collected data pertaining to Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, drugs abuse & related problems, water connections etc from each household.

This door to door Awareness campaign starting with Gori Complex Basar will be organized in 10 other identified sectors of Basar urban area. (DIPRO)
