Pasighat, Nov 28: Continuing its drive against juvenile driving, the East Siang Traffic Police on Friday detected 31 juveniles riding motor vehicles near IGJ Govt Hr Sec School, Pasighat.
Most of the violators were students of IGJ School. After being detained, they were counseled on the seriousness of their offence and informed about the legal consequences before being released with a stern warning, informed Dy SP (HQ) Ayup Boko.
As per Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, juveniles are strictly prohibited from driving motor vehicles. In such cases, legal action can be taken not only against the juvenile but against the parent, guardian, or owner of the vehicle as well.
The East Siang Police had earlier issued several advisories and conducted awareness programmes in schools to discourage underage driving and to ensure the safety of students and the general public.
Urging parents and guardians to take responsibility, Dy SP Boko said, “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Strict adherence to traffic regulations and responsible behaviour from both parents and children can help prevent avoidable accidents and save lives.”
Police warned that strict legal action will be taken against repeat offenders in future.
