KVK bid to up nutritional security, sustainable farming practices in Anjaw

ITANAGAR, Nov 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Anjaw organized a programme on the distribution of vegetable saplings to farmers and farm women to promote nutritional security and sustainable farming practices in the district.

The vegetable seedlings were developed in KVK farm, while scientists nurtured them scientifically to produce healthy saplings before distribution.

A total of 25 farmers and farm women from different villages participated in the programme. During the event, a total of 3000 saplings of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, and tomato, along with seeds of carrot, cucumber and garden pea were distributed among the participants.

Dr Debasis Sasmal, Senior Scientist and Head KVK Anjaw, appreciated the enthusiasm of the farmers and farm women for adopting kitchen gardening. He also motivated them to develop integrated farming models for sustainable agricultural development and enhanced livelihood opportunities.He also emphasized the importance of utilizing kitchen degradable waste and household organic waste for making compost, which helps improve soil quality, maintain a clean environment, and supports the vision of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

Pooja Singnale, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science), highlighted the importance of growing nutri-gardens and emphasized the health benefits of consuming seasonal leafy and other vegetables. She encouraged participants to include more home-grown vegetables in their diets for improved nutrition.

Satveer Yadav, SMS (Horticulture), explained the scientific methods of nursery raising and the cultivation practices for vegetables and fruit crops suitable for Anjaw district.
