Workshops on Indian classical art forms held at Narottam Nagar, Deomali

KHONSA, Dec 1: Ramakrishna Mission, Narottam Nagar, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY (Arunachal Chapter), SRF Foundation and the Department of Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, successfully conducted five-day workshops on two classical art forms — Dhrupad and Sattriya Nritya — from November 26 to 30.

A total of 135 students from across the state participated. The Dhrupad sessions were led by Padma Shri awardee Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, accompanied by Mohan Shyam Sharma on the pakhawaj, while the Sattriya workshop was conducted by Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awardee Usha Rani Baishya.

As part of the programme, Dhrupad recitals and Sattriya performances were also organised at Wangcha Rajkumar Government College, Ramakrishna Mission School (Narottam Nagar), Government Higher Secondary Schools in Deomali and Khonsa, and Mahabodhi Rising Wisdom School, Deomali. The initiative provided hundreds of students and teachers valuable exposure to the depth and discipline of Indian classical arts.

The workshops aimed to nurture artistic sensibilities, promote cultural engagement, and strengthen appreciation for India’s rich heritage, reaffirming the commitment of SPIC MACAY and Ramakrishna Mission towards holistic education in the region.
