Tirap raises key development issues during CM’s state-level review meet

Khonsa, May 23: Several key developmental concerns and infrastructure priorities relating to Tirap district and the TLC region were raised during a state-level virtual review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pema Khandu in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta and senior state officials.

The meeting witnessed active participation from Environment & Forest and DoTCL Minister Wangki Lowang, Advisor to the Transport Minister and MLA Chakat Aboh, Khonsa East MLA Wanglam Sawin, Borduria-Bogapani MLA and Advisor to the Forest Minister Wanglin Lowangdong, Khonsa ADC Namneet Singh, SP Aditya, administrative officers and heads of departments.

During the meeting, the leaders highlighted several pressing issues concerning the district, including the need for establishing a Medical College in Tirap to serve the healthcare and educational needs of the entire Tirap-Changlang-Longding (TCL) region.

The leaders also stressed the urgent need for widening and improving roads within Khonsa township and finding a permanent solution to recurring road blockages in Lazu, which frequently disrupt connectivity and public movement.

Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran presented a detailed overview of the district’s major administrative and developmental challenges requiring immediate intervention from the state government. He highlighted acute shortages of administrative officers, doctors, teachers and police personnel, which continue to affect governance and service delivery.

The DC further sought support for upgradation of township roads, construction of a multi-purpose convention hall, diversion roads, improved broadband connectivity, residential quarters for officials, reconstruction of old Govt buildings and additional official vehicles.

Other major proposals included protection and development of the Charju River Front at Deomali, reconstruction of the FCI godown, construction of a multi-level parking complex in Khonsa and upgradation of Wangcha Rajkumar Govt College into a multi-faculty institution.

The meeting reflected a collective commitment towards accelerating infrastructure development, connectivity and public service delivery across the Tirap district.
