NIT Arunachal, SCITeG sign MoU to establish AI Centre of Excellence

Itanagar, Jun 8: In a major step towards advancing the Digital Arunachal vision, the State Council for IT and e-Governance (SCITeG), Department of IT and Communication, and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Arunachal Pradesh on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (AI-CoE) at NIT-AP, Jote in Papum Pare district.

The AI-CoE will be set up with financial and technical support from India AI under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. The MoU was signed by Director of NIT Arunachal Pradesh, Prof M V Aware, and Director-cum-Member Secretary of SCITeG, Neelam Yapin Tana, in the presence of Dr Sonal Swaroop, Secretary, IT and Communication, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Envisioned under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu, the AI-CoE will serve as a research and innovation hub promoting cutting-edge AI technologies, skill development, startup incubation, and digital solutions for governance and industry.

The centre aims to function as a think tank, incubator and capacity-building platform to accelerate AI adoption across government, academia, industry and society. NIT Arunachal Pradesh will contribute its academic expertise, research ecosystem and skilled faculty to support innovation and talent development in the field of artificial intelligence.
