Anini, Feb 1: Reh, the annual festival of the Idu Mishmi tribe, was celebrated here today with traditional gaiety, showcasing the community’s cultural heritage.
Joining the people of Anini in celebrating Reh festival, State's Forest & Environment Minister Wangki Lowang reminded the people of the Dibang Valley about the rich and vast natural resources bestowed upon them and the need for their conservation.
He also suggested that the handicrafts and handlooms of the Lower Dibang Valley district be marketed with a trademark so as to ensure no copyright infringement by external agencies.
Local MLA cum chief patron of the festival celebration committee, Mopi Mihu, in his speech, also underscored the need for preservation of one’s culture and tradition while embracing modernity.
On the inaugural day of the three-day festival, various cultural programmes were displayed by the artistes, including members of SHGs and students, highlighting the theme of coexisting with nature as their ancestors.
The Minister was accompanied by PCCF Ngilyang Tam. The day-long programme was also attended by the HoDs, officers, PRI members and community members.
Reh was celebrated across the district in various circles, and the festivities will continue for the next two days showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Idu Mishmis. (DIPRO)
