Over 728 kg seized cannabis legally disposed of in ICR

Itanagar, Feb 3: In a landmark step towards strict enforcement of narcotics laws, the District Level Drug Disposal Committee has successfully carried out the first-ever disposal of seized narcotic substances in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), strictly following the due process of law.

The disposal was conducted on Tuesday at around 11:30 am at the Dikrong River near the Naharlagun Helipad, in compliance with the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985 and the NDPS (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules, 2022.

A total of 728.790 kg of cannabis was destroyed during the operation. This included 725.215 kg seized in connection with Naharlagun Police Station Case No. 82/2022 and 3.575 kg seized in Case No. 41/2025. The disposal was carried out in strict adherence to all legal and environmental norms.

The process was conducted in the presence of members of the District Level Drug Disposal Committee, including Naharlagun Superintendent of Police (Chairman) Dr Nyalam Nega; Superintendent (Tax, Excise & Narcotics), Zone-II, Jhon Siram; Superintendent of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Itanagar Zonal Unit, Samuel C Hangzo; and Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo.

The Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, Inspector Krishnendu Dev, presented the complete inventory of the seized items along with all relevant case documents. The entire process was carried out transparently and strictly in accordance with statutory guidelines.

Reiterating the commitment of the police to combat drug menace, the SP stated that the ICR police will continue to enforce narcotics laws rigorously to safeguard public health and ensure community safety.
