TUTING, Feb 3: Marking World Cancer Day, the Spearhead Gunners, in collaboration with the Department of Women and Child Development, Tuting Block, organised a cancer awareness workshop aimed at empowering adolescent girls through education and preventive healthcare.
The programme witnessed the active participation of 72 adolescent girls, who attended interactive sessions on HPV vaccination, breast self-examination, and menstrual health and hygiene—critical components in the early prevention and detection of cancer. Medical experts and trained resource persons conducted simple demonstrations and encouraged open discussions to dispel myths, address concerns, and promote healthy practices.
The initiative was carried out under Operation Sadbhavna, underscoring the Indian Army’s people-centric approach towards community welfare, women empowerment, and health awareness, particularly in remote and border areas.
The workshop provided a safe and supportive platform where participants could freely discuss sensitive health issues that are often neglected due to social stigma or lack of information. The participants appreciated the initiative, noting that such awareness programmes play a vital role in building confidence, promoting informed health choices, and shaping a healthier future generation.
Through initiatives like this, the Indian Army continues to extend its role beyond national security, contributing significantly to social development and nation-building, a Defence spokesperson said.
