NSCN-K (Niki-Sumi) cadre surrenders in Khonsa

Itanagar, Feb 3: In a significant development towards restoring peace and normalcy in the region, a cadre of the NSCN-K (Niki Sumi) faction has surrendered before the security forces in Tirap district, police said on Tuesday.

Self-Styled (SS) Lt Wangjong Wangsu (37), Army No. 23149, a resident of Longsom village in Longding district, surrendered before the Tirap Police, 44 Assam Rifles, and 36 Battalion CRPF at the SP Office, Khonsa, on Monday.

Officials said the surrender is being viewed as a positive step towards strengthening peace initiatives in Tirap district and as an encouraging signal for other misguided youth to shun violence and return to the mainstream of society.

Security forces reiterated their firm commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and assured continued support for rehabilitation and reintegration measures for those who voluntarily surrender.
