Union Budget 2026-27 to boost infrastructure, tourism & growth in Arunachal: Dy CM

Itanagar, Feb 4: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27 presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, stating that the Budget would bring tangible and long-term benefits for the State by accelerating development across key sectors.

Addressing a press briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Mein congratulated the Finance Minister on presenting what he described as a robust, forward-looking and inclusive Budget under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“My heartfelt congratulations to the Minister of Finance, Nirmala Sitharaman ji, on presenting a strong and future-oriented Union Budget. This Budget strengthens the foundations of inclusive growth, infrastructure development and social empowerment, with special focus on aspirational and frontier regions such as Arunachal Pradesh,” Mein said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the Union Budget 2026-27 reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to balanced and sustainable development, with emphasis on long-term capacity creation rather than short-term measures. He highlighted the Rs 12.2 lakh crore allocation for capital expenditure, Rs 20,000 crore earmarked for carbon capture technologies, Rs 10,000 crore for biopharma, comprehensive MSME liquidity reforms, and strong policy thrust on semiconductors, logistics and clean industries.

“These interventions clearly reflect a strategy aimed at strengthening India’s productive capacity, technological leadership and environmental sustainability,” he said.

Focusing on Arunachal Pradesh, Mein said the continued priority given to strategic infrastructure, border connectivity, hydropower development and North East–specific schemes would significantly enhance the State’s growth trajectory. He said sustained investments in roads, bridges, power generation, logistics and digital connectivity were crucial for a border State with difficult terrain and strategic importance.

Welcoming the announcement of special Buddhist tourist circuits across Arunachal Pradesh and other Northeastern states, the Deputy Chief Minister said the initiative would give a major boost to cultural and spiritual tourism, particularly in areas such as Tawang and West Kameng, while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities and strengthening regional identity.

Mein further stated that enhanced investments in human capital through education, skill development and livelihoods would improve the overall quality of life of the people. He added that the Budget would also reinforce Arunachal Pradesh’s vital role in India’s national security and economic progress.

“The Union Budget 2026-27 strongly aligns Arunachal Pradesh’s development aspirations with the national vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. The State Government looks forward to close cooperation with the Centre to ensure effective implementation and inclusive development,” Mein added.
