Itanagar, Feb 5: Yeksi village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district was formally declared as Localised Sustainable Development Goal (LSDG) Village on Thursday, with the theme “Enhanced Livelihood and Poverty-Free Village”, marking a significant step towards grassroots development and community-led economic empowerment.
The programme was inaugurated by Siang district Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, in the presence of Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tamat Tatak, Director, Panchayati Raj, Tajing Jonnom, Pangin ADC Gamtum Padu, and CO-cum-Member Secretary Niyang Pertin, along with PRI members, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and villagers.
The LSDG Village initiative has been funded under the 3 per cent LSDG component of the State Owned Resource (SOR) grant for the financial year 2025-26. Yeksi village has been adopted by Tajing Jonnom, Director (PR), to ensure focused monitoring, convergence of government schemes and sustainable development outcomes at the grassroots level.
As part of the LSDG activities funded under the SOR grant, livelihood promotion through piggery farming has been undertaken for six SHGs of Yeksi village. Each SHG has been provided seed money of Rs 4 lakh to establish and strengthen piggery units and other income-generating enterprises. The initiative aims to enhance household incomes, create local employment opportunities and ensure long-term economic security for the community.
In addition, several facilities have been established at the village Dere (community hall) to promote shared use of resources and environmentally responsible practices. A printer-cum-photocopier has been provided to ensure affordable documentation services within the village, reducing time and financial burden on residents. Reusable utensils and safe drinking water facilities have also been provided to discourage single-use plastics during meetings and public functions, reinforcing the village’s commitment to sustainable and plastic-free living.
As part of the preparatory activities for LSDG adoption, a cleanliness and plantation drive was carried out across the village. Aesthetic and durable waste collection units were installed at key locations to promote responsible waste disposal, while bamboo dustbins were distributed to every household to support waste segregation at source.
Addressing the gathering, DC Tayi Taggu said that the LSDG model integrates livelihood generation, community infrastructure and sustainable practices to achieve holistic village development. He urged beneficiaries to utilise the support effectively and work collectively to make Yeksi a model poverty-free village.
ZPC Tamat Tatak appreciated the initiatives to strengthen SHGs, stating that targeted livelihood interventions play a crucial role in ensuring rural economic stability. Director Tajing Jonnom highlighted that the adoption of Yeksi as an LSDG Village reflects the department’s commitment to focused handholding and community-driven development. He urged villagers to maintain the assets responsibly and ensure the success of the livelihood initiatives.
The programme concluded with enthusiastic participation from villagers and SHG members, reaffirming their collective resolve to transform Yeksi into a self-reliant, poverty-free and plastic-free LSDG village.
