Guv Parnaik emphasizes need for further strengthening border road infrastructure

Itanagar, Feb 7: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) KT Parnaik has emphasized the need for further strengthening border road infrastructure, describing it as a vital lifeline for national security as well as for the socio-economic development of frontier communities.

The Governor said this while interacting with Director General of Border Roads (DGBR) Lt Gen Harpal Singh, who called on him at Raj Bhavan here on Saturday.

During the meeting, they held detailed discussions on the progress of border road projects in the State and their crucial role in improving connectivity and the quality of life of people living in remote and border areas.

Stressing the importance of timely execution, the Governor said that strategic road projects must be completed within stipulated timelines and adhere to the highest quality standards, as delays or substandard work directly affect connectivity, emergency response, and day-to-day life in difficult terrain.

The Director General of Border Roads briefed the Governor on future plans related to the Frontier Highway and other sensitive road alignments, which are being taken up on priority.

The Governor appreciated the quality of roads constructed by the Border Roads Organization (BRO), stating that improved connectivity has transformed border villages by enhancing access to education, healthcare, markets, and livelihood opportunities. He added that the improved infrastructure is also providing strong momentum to the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme by turning border settlements into "centres of growth, resilience, and opportunity".

The Governor further commended BRO’s goodwill initiatives such as medical camps for workers, play and learning rooms for labourers’ children, and cleanliness drives, reflecting the organization’s commitment to social responsibility.

Lt Gen Harpal Singh assured that the BRO remains fully committed to strengthening connectivity, welfare, and overall development in Arunachal Pradesh.
