PASIGHAT, Feb 10: An apparent case of serious billing error has surfaced after the Department of Power, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, issued an electricity bill of Rs 55,94,861.91 to a small panwari (betel) shop at Pasighat market, raising concerns over the accuracy of the department’s billing system.
According to official records, the bill for February 2026 has been issued in the name of Mina Lohar, Market, bearing Consumer ID/Account Number 11000000709 under the Pasighat Sub-Division.
The shop reportedly operates with minimal electrical load, comprising one electric bulb, one ceiling fan and one refrigerator. Traders and residents have questioned how such limited usage could result in an electricity bill running into several lakhs of rupees, pointing towards a possible meter reading error, billing miscalculation or technical fault.
The issuance of the exorbitant bill has caused distress to the shop owner and sparked concern among local traders, who fear similar discrepancies. The incident has highlighted the need for improved verification and accountability in the power billing process.
Locals have urged the authorities to immediately verify the meter reading, reassess actual consumption, withdraw the erroneous bill and take corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
