Woman arrested with 133 gram heroin worth Rs 7 lakh in Namsai

Itanagar, Feb 12: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Namsai Police seized approximately 133 grams of suspected heroin and arrested a woman during a targeted operation in the trolley line area of Namsai, a senior police officer said on Thursday.

Acting on specific information received on Wednesday at around 3.30 pm, the police team conducted a search operation after completing all required legal formalities. During the operation, Sarana Yoya (45), wife of Anseng Yoya and a resident of 2nd Mile, Namsai, was apprehended.

Based on her disclosure, police recovered 11 plastic soap cases containing yellow-orange powder suspected to be heroin from nearby bushes. The accused was formally arrested on Thursday in accordance with legal procedures.

The seized contraband, estimated to be worth around Rs 7 lakh, was weighed, marked, sealed, and seized in the presence of independent witnesses. The entire operation was videographed to ensure transparency.

The operation was led by SDPO Kengo Dirchi and Inspector AK Pandey along with lady Sub-Inspector Luja Singpho and other police personnel under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sange Thinley.

A case has been registered at MNS Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway, the SP said.

Reaffirming its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, Namsai Police has urged the public to share credible information to help combat narcotics-related crimes in the district.
