KHONSA, Feb 12: In a significant development, a self-styled Lieutenant of NSCN-K (Khango Konyak faction) surrendered before security forces following a focused operation launched by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in Tirap district.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a hardcore “ANE” in the general area of Moktowa, the Khonsa Battalion initiated a targeted operation on Tuesday. Through sustained persuasion and coordinated efforts, the security forces motivated the individual to shun the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
The surrendered cadre has been identified as Wangkhu Lowang (32), a resident of Moktowa village under Dadam circle in Tirap district. During the surrender at the Battalion Headquarters, Khonsa, the individual deposited one 7.65 mm pistol along with a magazine and six live rounds of ammunition.
Officials stated that the surrender reflects the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations combined with a humane and persuasive approach adopted by the security forces. Assam Rifles, in coordination with other security agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and urged misguided youth to renounce violence and join the mainstream.
