Akashvani Itanagar celebrates World Radio Day in befitting way

ITANAGAR, Feb 13: Joining the rest of the globe, Akashvani Itanagar today celebrated World Radio Day 2026 with a thought-provoking programme highlighting the medium’s evolving role amid emerging technologies, its expanding scope in a rapidly changing content consumption landscape, and its continued relevance for future generations.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Dr M Nawaz Khan, Associate Professor, Department of Mass Communication (Rajiv Gandhi University), underscored the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence in broadcasting.

He also enlightened the house on the scope of AI (Artificial Intelligence) in radio content.

Dr A K Mishra, State Liaison Officer, Directorate of Higher Education (GoAP), in his address, reflected on the enduring strength of radio as a medium of communication, information and entertainment.

Adding a vibrant local flavour to the celebration, presenters and announcers of Akashvani Itanagar performed multiple songs, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region and reinforcing radio’s role in promoting local art and talent.

World Radio Day is observed every year on February 13 to commemorate the establishment of United Nations Radio in 1946. The theme for 2026, “Radio and Artificial Intelligence: AI is a tool, not a voice,” highlights the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence in the broadcasting ecosystem, while reaffirming that human creativity and editorial judgment remain at the heart of radio.
