NSCN (K-YA) cadre surrenders in Khonsa

Itanagar, Feb 16: In a significant development, a hardcore insurgent belonging to the Khaplang-Aung Yung (K-YA) faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) surrendered before the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles following sustained intelligence-based operations in Tirap district on Sunday, sources said on Monday.

According to official sources, credible intelligence inputs were received from 3 CIB and further corroborated by 19 WEU at around 1200 hours on February 15 regarding the presence of an insurgent in the general area of Khonsa town. Acting swiftly, the Khonsa Battalion launched a focused operation.

On reaching the suspected location, security forces activated their sources and established contact with the insurgent. Through sustained pressure and continuous negotiations, the individual was persuaded to shun the path of violence and return to the mainstream. He subsequently surrendered and was taken into custody at the Battalion Headquarters in Khonsa.

The surrendered insurgent has been identified as SS (Self-Styled) Sergeant Inno Mosha Pangsa (Chang), aged 23 years, a resident of Tuensang village under Tuensang district, Nagaland. He had joined the outfit on April 19, 2022.

During the surrender, he handed over one .32 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition, one walkie-talkie set with charger, and an appointment letter. The individual was later handed over to Khonsa Police Station for further investigation.

Security officials stated that the successful surrender underscores the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the humane, persuasive approach adopted by the Assam Rifles. The force reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and motivating misguided youths to return to the mainstream.
