ITANAGAR, Feb 17: The Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Tuesday carried out a major eviction drive, removing hundreds of illegal hoardings, banners, posters and other promotional materials from various parts of the Capital city.
Interacting with the media, Revenue Officer Tarh Eka said that despite repeated advisories and warnings, several organisations and establishments continued to erect posters, banners and hoardings in violation of laid-down rules, particularly along the Right of Way (RoW) and roadsides.
He informed that permission is mandatory for putting up hoardings, banners or posters within the municipal area, and a prescribed fee must be paid to the IMC through proper procedures. “Anyone can seek permission and avail the benefit, but without permission such acts are not permissible. We are removing such hoardings and banners from the RoW of National Highway-415, from Chimpu to Zero Point Tinali in Itanagar,” he said.
The Revenue Officer added that eviction drives are conducted periodically. However, in view of the upcoming Statehood Day celebrations on February 20, it was considered necessary to intensify the drive to ensure cleanliness and prevent defacement of public property.
He also pointed out that several building owners have dumped construction materials near under-construction buildings and along roadsides, posing a serious threat to smooth traffic movement. He warned such individuals to refrain from obstructing public spaces.
Referring to the ‘Arunachal Pradesh Municipal (Control on Advertisement) Regulation, 2025,’ he stated that no person shall carry out advertisement or promotional activities unless duly registered as an advertiser with the IMC or holding a valid advertisement licence issued by the Corporation.
“Our eviction drive will continue from time to time and may be conducted in any part of the Municipal Corporation area without prior notice, as it concerns defacement of public property,” he said, urging city dwellers to comply with IMC orders and advisories regarding advertisements, garbage management, and operation of roadside meat shops.
The IMC reiterated its appeal to residents and business establishments to obtain proper permission before undertaking any activity within municipal limits.
