JAACM demands CM’s resignation over alleged contract irregularities

ITANAGAR, Feb 18: The Jan Andolan Anti-Corruption Movement (JAACM) has demanded that Chief Minister Pema Khandu resign from his post to facilitate free and fair investigation into the allegations of awarding large-scale government contracts to his relatives.

Addressing a press conference here today, JAACM chairman Nabam Tagam informed that writ petitions had been filed in the Supreme Court of India by the Voluntary Arunachal Sena and the Save Mon Region Federation, alleging misuse of official position by the Chief Minister. The petitions reportedly accuse Khandu of granting public works contracts to firms owned or controlled by his close relatives.

Tagam stated that the apex court has admitted the petitions and conducted multiple hearings in the matter. He further informed that on February 17, 2026, the court issued an order reserving its judgment and directed both parties to file their written submissions within two weeks.

Alleging that investigating agencies are unable to conduct an impartial probe while the Chief Minister continues in office, Tagam asserted that a fair investigation would only be possible if Khandu steps down from his post.

He also warned that if the Chief Minister fails to resign on moral grounds within a short period, JAACM would launch a series of democratic movements across the state.

The organisation has reportedly submitted representations to the offices of the Prime Minister and the President, the BJP headquarters, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and several other political leaders regarding the legal case against the Chief Minister.
