MoU signed with Sitang villagers for PFR activities under SUMP

BOLENG, Feb 21: In a significant development towards the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with the villagers of Sitang was held here today in connection with the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities of the project.

The programme was attended by Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing, former Minister and Chairman of the SUMP Development Committee Tamiyo Taga, Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, and senior officials of the Hydropower Department, Govt of Arunachal Pradesh.

Officials present included Under Secretary Komli Pakmen Mathew, Chief Engineer (Siang Basin) Karom Perme, Nodal Officer (SUMP) Atek Miyu, Superintending Engineer (Siang Basin) Durick Kamduk, and Executive Engineer, Siang Hydropower Division-II, Pangin, Sheel Kapar, along with Heads of Departments of Siang district.

Out of 84 households in Sitang village, 58 households signed the MoU with the Government, conveying their consent for carrying out PFR activities under the project.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu highlighted the benefits of the special developmental package proposed for Siang district. He stated that the project is expected to bring improved infrastructure, livelihood opportunities and overall socio-economic development to the region.

Tamiyo Taga informed that each household would receive financial assistance of Rs 2.50 lakh under livelihood schemes covering agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and fisheries sectors, aimed at strengthening economic sustainability and enhancing the standard of living of the local population.

Minister Ojing Tasing expressed gratitude to the villagers for their cooperation and trust, and urged them to welcome developmental initiatives in the larger interest of the district. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to inclusive growth and welfare of the people of Siang.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge to work together for sustainable development and progress of the district through coordinated efforts between the Government and the local community. (DIPRO)
