Itanagar, Feb 21: In a tragic incident, a police officer was killed in a wild elephant attack at Sunpura near Tezu in Lohit district on Saturday morning.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Tezu, Ojing Lego, the deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Martin Lego of Sunpura Police Station. He had reportedly gone for a morning stroll at Patthar Ghat along with two others when they were suddenly confronted by a wild elephant at around 10 am.
“While the two accompanying persons managed to escape and informed others after reaching home, the matter was conveyed telephonically to Sunpura Police Station at around 12 noon,” the DySP said.
An unnatural death (UD) case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 has been registered at Sunpura Police Station.
The body was later recovered, and after completion of postmortem formalities, it was handed over to the family members, the police added.
Late Martin Lego is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
