AU holds workshop on POSH Act, poster making contest on 40th Statehood Day

ITANAGAR, Feb 21: Women’s Development Cell and the Department of Legal Studies, Arunodaya University in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell organized a one-day workshop on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) at its Lekhi (Naharlagun) premises.

Prof N V Sangvikar, AU Vice Chancellor, asked that the objectives of the POSH Act be clearly communicated to all participants and encouraged active engagement to strengthen awareness and accountability within the university community.

Themed ‘Empowerment Through Awareness: Understanding POSH Act for Safe Workplaces’, the programme saw Mantu Acharjee, chairperson WDC & HoD Legal Studies, giving an insightful overview of provisions of POSH Act.

Licha Yania, Asstt Prof (Legal Studies), engaged participants through case studies and real-life scenarios, enabling them to understand practical aspects of complaint redressal mechanisms.

A video awareness session was presented by Pranjal Saikia (NSS Cell), reinforcing the message of prevention and accountability.

The workshop was attended by law students, NSS volunteers, faculty members, and administrative staff.

The initiative strengthened collaboration between the Dept of Legal Studies and the NSS Cell and resulted in the submission of draft recommendations to the University administration for strengthening POSH policy implementation.

The programme concluded with a pledge for promoting gender sensitivity.  

Meanwhile, AU’s Dept of English organized a Poster Making Competition on the occasion of the 40th Statehood Day at its campus.

Themed ‘My Arunachal: Celebrating our history, cultural heritage, and achievements’, the event aimed to provide students with a platform to express their creativity and artistic talents while reflecting on the rich history, vibrant culture, and remarkable progress of Arunachal Pradesh.

Participants showcased innovative ideas and artistic excellence through colorful and thought-provoking posters highlighting the significance of Statehood Day.

In his address, VC Prof Sangvikar emphasized that the event should reflect the spirit of unity, creativity, and cultural pride. He encouraged students to focus on originality, relevance to the theme, and meaningful representation of Arunachal Pradesh’s heritage and achievements.

Minam Riyang, HoD English (AU), encouraged students to actively engage in such creative activities that promote cultural awareness and pride.

Conducted with the support and guidance of the university administration, the competition witnessed an overwhelming response and concluded successfully, reinforcing the spirit of unity, creativity, and celebration among the students.
