Itanagar, Feb 23: In a continued drive against drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police has arrested two alleged drug peddlers and seized suspected heroin during a targeted operation on Sunday afternoon.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Shivaji Morang (28) and Sarat Kutum (30), both residents of Bolugaguri under Bihpuria Police Station in Lakhimpur district, Assam, police said.
The police sources informed that at around 1:10 pm, credible input was received regarding transportation of narcotic contraband from Assam for delivery in the Banderdewa market area on a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle bearing registration number AS-07W-0148.
Acting promptly, a police team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, along with SI Koj Tada, head constable T Bomdom, and constable R Tsering, laid a trap at Niya Colony under the supervision of Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo. Subsequently, the motorcycle was intercepted and two suspects were detained.
During the search, police recovered a blue-coloured soap case containing an orangish-coloured powder suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 10.95 grams, from the possession of one of the accused.
A case has been registered vide BDW/PS/Case No. 12/26 under Sections 21(b) and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and both accused have been formally arrested.
