GBs at Sangram take ‘historic’ pledge on wildlife conservation

YUPIA, Feb 24: In a key initiative eying on wildlife conservation, a one-day workshop for Gaon Burahs was successfully conducted at the conference hall of the SDO office, Sangram, in which they took a collective wildlife protection pledge.

Led by SDO Sangram Philip Tayeng, in presence of Agam Komut (CO Nyobia) and Shanti Paleng (OC PS Sangram), the programme aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and enhancing coordination between traditional village institutions and the administration.

During the technical sessions, important topics such as the Role of GB in village administration, provisions of the Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation, 1945 (AFR 1945), and the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Courts Act 2021, and its amendments were deliberated in detail. The sessions focused on clarifying the legal authority, responsibilities, and coordination mechanisms between Gaon Burahs, Police and the civil administration.

A major highlight of the event was the collective wildlife protection pledge, where all GBs committed themselves to refraining from hunting and consumption of wild animals and to spreading awareness on biodiversity conservation in their respective villages.

The initiative reflects a progressive step towards balancing traditional leadership with modern conservation responsibilities. The programme, marking the 40th Statehood Day celebration, concluded with the distribution of participation certificates to the attendees. (DIPRO)
