Bomdila/Nafra, Feb 25: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Kameng district, in collaboration with the 12 Bn NDRF, conducted a mock exercise on earthquake disaster preparedness at Bomdila on Wednesday.
The exercise was aimed at assessing the preparedness, coordination and response mechanisms of various line departments and emergency responders in the event of a major earthquake.
During the drill, NDRF personnel carried out simulated rescue and evacuation operations. Victims were identified and rescued from affected sites, first aid was administered on the spot, and the injured were shifted to the General Hospital for further treatment following standard emergency response protocols.
Meanwhile, a tabletop exercise on earthquake preparedness and response was conducted at the DC Conference Hall in Nafra under the chairmanship of Assistant Commissioner (HQ) Pik Tayom of Bichom district. The exercise was attended by CO Nafra Aja Giogi, Dy Commandant PH M Singh of the NDRF, and heads of offices and line departments of the district.
A simulated earthquake scenario was discussed in detail, covering immediate response actions, activation of the Incident Response System (IRS) and District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), search and rescue coordination, medical preparedness, evacuation planning, relief camp management and inter-departmental communication protocols. Participating departments presented their respective roles and standard operating procedures, while gaps and challenges were identified for improvement.
Emphasizing the importance of preparedness, the chair highlighted the need for timely information flow, resource mapping and coordinated field response to minimize loss of life and property during disasters. NDRF officials shared technical inputs on response strategies, community awareness and safety measures during earthquakes.
The table top exercise was conducted as part of preparatory activities for the district-level mock exercise on earthquake scheduled for February 26, aimed at strengthening multi-agency coordination and disaster readiness across Bichom district. (DIPROs)
