NAMSAI, Feb 26: Hornbill Arrow Sporting Club (HASC) emerged as the champion of the “Kickoff Challenge Football Tournament 2025-26” defeating Kharsang Royal Club (KRC) 4-2 in the final played here this afternoon amid the presence of an enthusiastic crowd.
Organized by 8 Assam Rifles from February 23 to 26 under the aegis of HQ 25 Sector Assam Rifles (IGAR North) aimed at promoting sportsmanship, youth engagement and strengthening civil-military relations in the region, the tournament witnessed participation from six prominent clubs - Kharsang Royal Club, MPEN Football Club, Kharsang Football Club, Hornbill Arrow Sporting Club, Miao Town Club and Namsai Town Club.
Prior to this in the semifinals staged on February 24, HASC edged past Namsai Town Club 1-0 while KRC won the second contest.
The knockout matches commenced on February 23 with spirited contests between KRC and MPEN Football Club, and Kharsang Football Club taking on HASC.
Earlier during the tournament, Namsai Deputy Commissioner C R Khampa visited the venue for the prize distribution ceremony of the Girls’ Football Match and interacted with the players, encouraging wider participation of youth in sports activities.
In individual awards, best goalkeeper of the tournament was awarded to Rakesh Rai (HASC), while Abongrongrang of KRC was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
The event, conducted under the leadership of Lt Col Sudheer Pujari, Officiating Commandant 8 Assam Rifles, was efficiently organized by Major Jay Kant Mishra, OC ‘D’ Company, 8 AR, who played a key role in coordinating the same.
