Itanagar/Ziro, Feb 27: The District Rounds of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 were successfully conducted in Itanagar and Ziro on the theme “50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy,” fostering democratic awareness and critical thinking among youth.
In the state capital, the programme was organized by MY Bharat in collaboration with Dera Natung Government College at the college conference hall. The event was chaired by Principal Dr MQ Khan and witnessed active participation from students.
Welcoming the gathering, Deputy Director of MY Bharat Gopesh Pandey highlighted the importance of revisiting the Emergency period to understand constitutional safeguards, democratic institutions, and civil liberties. He emphasized that such platforms enable youth to articulate their views confidently and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
Participants presented well-researched arguments reflecting strong constitutional perspectives. Following evaluation by the jury, the top 10 participants were selected for the State-Level Round scheduled in March, with Tehen Henkhe securing the first position.
Meanwhile, in Ziro, the District Round was hosted by Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University (IGTAMSU) at Hotel Blue Pine. The inaugural session featured a welcome address by programme coordinator Bidyananda Singh, who encouraged participants to develop a solution-oriented outlook rooted in historical understanding.
Dr Prasant Roy, Registrar of IGTAMSU, underscored the importance of safeguarding democratic values. Jury members Tai Arun, Trade Development Officer-cum-DIPRO Lower Subansiri, and entrepreneur Tage Rita Takhe urged participants to align their aspirations with the vision of a developed and self-reliant India.
A total of 27 participants from IGTAMSU and St Claret College engaged in structured parliamentary deliberations. Based on the jury’s assessment, five participants — Karyir Ronya, Apung Konia, Reena Tamang, Ajo Pulu, and Raut Aung Tingwa — were selected to represent the district at the State Round.
The programmes concluded with certificate distribution and a renewed commitment to fostering informed, responsible, and empowered youth in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
