DNGC organises workshop, paper presentation on IWD

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The Women’s Cell of Dera Natung Government College, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organised a workshop-cum-paper presentation on the occasion of International Women’s Day at the college premise here on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr MQ Khan highlighted the social, economic and cultural achievements of women and praised the outstanding performance of girls in CBSE examinations and their success in multinational companies. He also referred to the leadership of women officers in the recent Operation Sindoor, stating that it symbolises the protection of dignity and the growing role of women in uniform. He encouraged students to draw inspiration from such achievements and contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

The keynote session was delivered by Advocate Sum Valentine Darang, who spoke on legal awareness and the protection of the rights of women and children. She emphasised the constitutional right to equality before the law and discussed legal provisions related to protection from domestic violence, workplace safety, economic rights and property rights.

The resource person also elaborated on laws safeguarding children, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. She further highlighted concerns about “screen autism,” explaining that excessive exposure to digital screens during early childhood may lead to autism-like behavioural patterns.

As part of the programme, a paper presentation workshop was conducted where five students presented papers on the theme “Give to Gain.” The presenters included Ngamdon Wangsu on “Her Power, Her Legacy,” Bomman Ering on “The Power Within: Awakening Women’s Potential,” Dipika Biswas on “Auron par Anyay,” Geeta Taro on “Empowered Women: Empowered Nation,” and Fesham Liyak on “Narishaktikaran.” Certificates were awarded to all participants.

Around 100 students and faculty members attended the programme and actively interacted during the session. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Gopi Riba, Assistant Professor and Treasurer of the Women’s Cell.
