Itanagar, Mar 9: A hardcore insurgent belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Khango faction) was apprehended during a joint operation conducted by security forces at Khonsa in Tirap district on Sunday.
Sources said on Monday that acting on credible intelligence inputs about the presence of an insurgent in the Bank Colony area of Khonsa town, the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles, in coordination with the Tirap Police, launched a focused operation on March 8.
During the operation, the joint team apprehended the NSCN (K) insurgent identified as self-styled sergeant Puman Pansa. He was subsequently taken into custody for further investigation.
Security forces also recovered one 7.65 mm pistol, three live rounds of KF 7.65 mm ammunition, and a mobile phone from his possession.
Officials said the successful operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-based operations carried out jointly by the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles and Tirap Police.
Security forces reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and stated that strict action will continue against anti-national elements operating in the area.
