Drug peddler held with suspected heroin in Pasighat

Pasighat, Mar 12: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking under Operation Dawn 2.0, the East Siang Police on Thursday apprehended a suspected drug peddler and seized 17.88 grams of suspected heroin in Pasighat.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Drug Squad (ADS) of East Siang Police, in collaboration with anti-drug activists led by Gumin Mize, conducted an operation that led to the arrest of Tumyom Sora, a resident of Nari-Koyu in Lower Siang district, who currently resides at Sibo Siang in Pasighat.

Based on a tip-off regarding possession and illegal sale of narcotic substances, the ADS team launched the operation under the leadership of ADS in-charge, DySP Ayup Boko. The team including SI Kodak Dagium, SI (SG) Ogen Modi, and driver constable Kirto Taluk, conducted a raid at a house located at JNC campus (Peon Line area).

The search and seizure were carried out in strict compliance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, in the presence of Executive Magistrate Sanjay Taram, SDO of Pasighat.

During the search of the accused and the room, the team recovered 17.88 grams of suspected heroin (gross weight) along with used insulin syringes and Rs 2,500 in cash. The seized items were documented and confiscated in the presence of independent witnesses.

The accused was subsequently brought to Pasighat Police Station along with the seized items and handed over to the officer-in-charge. A case has been registered vide PSGT/PS/C/No.25/26 under Section 21(a) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.

East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba commended the efforts of the ADS team and reiterated the district police’s zero-tolerance policy against drug-related offences. He also urged the public to cooperate with the police by reporting any drug-related activities to help ensure a drug-free East Siang.
