Itanagar, Mar 14: The first National Lok Adalat of the year 2026 was conducted across various subordinate courts in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA).
According to official figures, out of 2,484 cases taken up during the Lok Adalat—covering both pre-litigation and pending matters, a total of 213 cases were disposed of in a single-day sitting by the respective courts across the state. The total settlement amount recorded during the Lok Adalat was Rs 1,18,39,004.
A total of 25 benches were constituted in different courts, including the District and Sessions Courts at Bomdila, Pasighat, Tezu, Yupia, Aalo and Basar, the Additional District and Sessions Court at Basar, and the courts of Chief Judicial Magistrates at Bomdila, Seppa, Pasighat, Ziro, Tezu, Changlang, Daporijo, Yupia and Aalo. Judicial Magistrate First Class courts at Tawang, Pangin, Yingkiong, Koloriang, Longding, Anini, Yupia, Namsai and Khonsa also participated in the exercise.
Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution mechanism where disputes at both pre-litigation and pending stages are settled amicably between the parties through mutual agreement. The process is conducted in a single sitting, helping reduce the burden of pending cases in courts while ensuring quicker and cost-effective resolution.
There is no court fee payable when a matter is filed before a Lok Adalat, making it accessible for litigants seeking speedy settlement of disputes.
Legal authorities noted that the one-day exercise significantly contributed to quicker dispute resolution and reinforced public access to justice through informal and conciliatory mechanisms.
