Bid to build ‘better’ homestays to boost tourism

ITANAGAR, Mar 14: Focusing on “building better homestays, strengthening tourism”, the Department of Tourism successfully organized a two-day Homestay training programme that concluded at the State Food Craft Institute (SFCI) here on Thursday last.

The programme was specially designed for Homestay owners who had not previously undergone formal training, with 59 participants actively taking part in the sessions. Over the two days, participants received hands-on training in key areas of hospitality including housekeeping practices, guest services, food safety & hygiene, and basic hospitality management.

Interactive and practical sessions helped the participants gain a better understanding of professional service standards, quality guest care, and improved Homestay management, enabling them to enhance the overall experience for visitors.

The training reflects the Department of Tourism’s continued commitment to capacity building and quality improvement in the Homestay sector, which plays a vital role in promoting community-based tourism and showcasing the rich culture and hospitality of the State.

At the end, all participants who successfully completed the training were awarded certificates during a brief valedictory session held at the SFCI, distributed by Dy Director Tourism Bengia Manna Sonam, SFCI Principal S Kar and others.
