ITANAGAR, Mar 17: A peaceful mass protest rally was organized on Tuesday by the people of Tawang Constituency against alleged corruption, irregularities and lack of transparency in the tendering process under the PWD Tawang Division.
Thousands of citizens gathered near the Buddha Park and marched towards the offices of the Executive Engineer, PWD, and the Deputy Commissioner, expressing strong resentment over the functioning of the department.
The protest was triggered by the floating of tenders worth multiple crores under SIDF, RE and other schemes without adherence to proper procedures. The protesters alleged that several works were tendered without transparency and due process.
Concerns were also raised that the local MLA was not informed about the ongoing works and developmental proposals in the constituency.
Emphasizing that all developmental activities must be carried out with the knowledge and involvement of the local MLA to ensure accountability and proper representation of public interest, the protesters demanded immediate transfer of PWD Tawang Division EE Tadar Nyakpu and AE J Ete, immediate initiation of a departmental inquiry against the concerned officials, cancellation of NITs dated February 11 and March 5 & 13, 2026 and implementation of transparent tendering procedures for all works above Rs 50 lakh.
A memorandum in this regard has been submitted to the DC and a one-week ultimatum has been issued to the authorities to address the demands. They warned of launching indefinite democratic movement if the authorities fail to meet their demands within the set timeframe.
