In a ‘first’ in State, three-day surgical outreach camp commences at Todak Basar District Hospital

BASAR, Mar 19: In a first-of-its-kind in the State, a three-day medical and surgical outreach camp got underway at Todak Basar District Hospital (TBDH) here today, with MLA and Advisor to Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr Mohesh Chai formally inaugurating the key initiative, helmed by local MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi.

The inaugural day witnessed the presence of a host of dignitaries and healthcare professionals, including Director Health Services Dr Marbom Basar, Director NHM Marge Sora, former Director TRIHMS Dr Moji Jini, Leparada Deputy Commissioner Himani Meena, SP Dr Thuptan Jambey, ZPC Nyamar Riba, ZPMs, Heads of Departments, District Medical Officer Dr Karmar Dirchi, Medical Superintendent Dr Nyage Lombi, along with doctors, nurses, and hospital staff and other officials.

Organized under the sponsorship of MLA Dirchi reflecting her strong commitment towards strengthening healthcare services for the people of the district, the programme is being conducted in collaboration with the District Health Society-Leparada, TRIHMS, National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (Naharlagun), Siang Health Mission, Arunachal Pradesh Surgeons’ Association, Department of Emergency Medicine & Trauma (TRIHMS) in association with EMA India, and with support from August Women’s Clinic & IVF Centre, Naharlagun and Aesculap-Einstein Vision.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Chai lauded the initiative and commended MLA Dirchi for conceptualizing and successfully organizing the programme which he termed as a unique and first-of-its-kind surgical camp in the State. He emphasized that, unlike general health camps, surgical camps require extensive pre-planning, including patient screening, laboratory investigations, and coordinated medical efforts.

He further appreciated the MLA’s proactive approach, noting that six health camps have already been conducted in the district within a short span since she assumed the office in 2024, highlighting her priority towards improving healthcare delivery.

In her address, Dirchi expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from patients and acknowledged the contributions of all stakeholders in making the camp a success. She also requested Dr Chai for his support in posting of a Child Specialist and a Medicine Specialist at TBDH Basar and also for the establishment of a blood bank facility to further strengthen healthcare services in the district.

During the three-day camp, specialized medical teams from TRIHMS, Zonal General Hospital-Aalo, August Women’s Clinic and IVF Centre and the NPCBVI will be conducting a range of surgical procedures including major gynaecological surgeries and cataract operations.

As per reports from the office of the DMO, a total of 35 major gynaecological surgeries, 20 tubectomy procedures, 22 major surgeries and 57 cataract operations have been planned during the three-day camp.

The noble initiative is expected to bring significant benefit the local population by providing access to specialized surgical care at their doorstep, thereby reducing the need for patients to travel outside the district for treatment, thereby reducing both medical and travel-related expenses.
