SUMP: 28 residents of Likor village extend consent to PFR survey

YINGKIONG, Mar 19: Support for the Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR) activities for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) continues to gain momentum in Upper Siang district, with residents of Likor village extending their consent as a total of 28 Project Affected Families (PAFs) signed the MoU during a meeting held at the conference hall of the DC bungalow here today.

On behalf of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Deputy Commissioner Upper Siang Talo Jerang signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), while Ombeng Danggen, representing the residents, also signed the MoU and formally submitted the list of 28 consenting households out of 65 households of Likor village.

The signing ceremony was conducted in presence of Atek Miyu (Nodal Officer SUMP), Api Kombo (ZPC), and SUMP Development Committee members - Kabit Apang, Omiyang Boli, and Adv Dubom Tekseng.

Lauding the positive response of the villagers, the DC highlighted the objective behind signing the MoU for conducting the PFR survey. He clarified that the survey is solely intended to assess the feasibility of the proposed project area. He stated that only after completion of the feasibility study will it be determined whether the project can proceed further.

If the findings are favourable, the project will undergo an extensive process of discussions and consultations; however, if the results are unfavourable, the project will not move forward.

The DC further assured that the entire process of obtaining consent and signing the memorandum is being carried out through proper consultation, awareness, and transparency with the concerned residents. (DIPRO)
