World Poetry Day 2026 celebrated across State in befitting manner

ITANAGAR, Mar 21: Joining the global celebration, World Poetry Day 2026 themed ‘Unity, Peace, and Cultural Expression through Verse’ was celebrated across the State today in a befitting way, highlighting it as a bridge for peace and inclusion.  

DIPRO PASIGHAT adds: Along with the rest of the globe, the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), East Siang District Unit in collaboration with the Department of Hindi, Arunachal Pradesh University (APU), Pasighat observed World Poetry Day at the APU conference hall here today with great enthusiasm and joy.

The event, moderated by Miti Perme, witnessed a large turnout of participants and audience from various colleges.

The august presence of prominent litterateur Kaling Borang and other senior members of the unit including Dr Ing Perme, HoD Hindi (APU)-cum-secretary general APLS-ESDU added to the grandeur of the event.

Borang offered words of encouragement to the enthusiastic audience and narrated the history of World Poetry Day. He also recited an Adi poem which deeply appealed to the imagination of the audience.

As many as 25 poets recited their compositions, including published poets Obat Boko and Otul Jerang, who presented their poems in Adi and English respectively from their books.

On behalf of the APU, Dr Linu Ronya, Asstt Professor, Dept of Hindi, extended her appreciation for conducting the event.

Participants were awarded certificates of appreciation.

The event, which celebrated magic of words and contribution of poets towards society and world of creativity, concluded with a brief speech by Otul Jerang, member of APLS, ESU and Organizing secretary.

BOMDILA: The Literary Club of Government College Bomdila, in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), West Kameng Unit, celebrated World Poetry Day with an engaging literary gathering that blended creativity, culture, and community spirit.

Held at the popular local eatery Komu’s Kitchen, the event embraced UNESCO’s theme, “Poetry as a Bridge for Peace and Inclusion,” transforming the venue into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. The warm and ambient setting inspired students and faculty alike to immerse themselves in poetry and creative dialogue.

The programme commenced with an insightful inaugural address by Dr Vineeta Dowerah, who emphasized poetry’s role in fostering social cohesion. Highlighting its power to connect cultures, she recited a self-composed piece reflecting the historical and emotional ties between the Nocte tribe of Arunachal Pradesh and the people of Assam's plains.

The chief guest, Dr VK Sinha, lauded the initiative for bringing academic engagement into a public and creative space. Special guests, Tenzin Paldron and Twinkle Sumi Das, enriched the session by sharing perspectives on literature’s role in promoting inclusivity and empathy.

A highlight of the celebration was the marathon of self-composed poetry recitations by students and faculty. Dr Lobsang Tashi Thungon captivated the audience with a poetic rendition in the Sherdukpen dialect, paying tribute to the ancestral harmony between tribal communities and nature.

The event concluded with a valedictory address by Dr Alok Kumar Singh, who echoed the essence of the UNESCO theme. His poem underscored poetry as a powerful force for peace, compassion, and equality, capable of bridging divides and inspiring a more inclusive world.

Earlier in the day, a folk-tale writing competition was also organised at Government College Bomdila, celebrating the region’s rich oral traditions and folklore.

ZIRO: As part of the two-day Ziro Literary Festival (ZLF) on its concluding here today, the Department of English, Saint Claret College (Autonomous), Ziro in association with the Dept of Mass Communication, celebrated World Poetry Day with a special programme.

During the event, a collection of poems written in local dialects was presented in an audio-visual format, celebrating linguistic diversity and indigenous expression.

Earlier, the ZLF, organized by PWLO Entertainment in collaboration with SCCZ, came to an end after two days of vibrant literary and cultural engagements.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Secretary Tourism (GoAP) Ranphoa Ngowa encouraged students and participants to be fearless in expressing themselves through various art forms. He urged them to use creativity as a means to heal the world. He emphasized that creativity should not become a burden but remain a free and liberating process.

Moreover, the Secy asked the participants to become voices that shape the future.

The concluding day featured a series of engaging sessions that brought together writers, journalists, filmmakers, and students.
