H-Spring conducts inclusive awareness drive on World Down Syndrome Day

PASIGHAT, Mar 21: H-Spring Integrated School, Pasighat under the H-Spring Foundation, marked World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) and Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month with a meaningful programme on the themes ‘Together Against Loneliness’ and ‘Stronger Together’.

The initiative aimed to promote inclusivity, spread awareness, and encourage support for individuals with developmental and neurological conditions.

The day highlighted the importance of early intervention, therapy, and community awareness while working to reduce stigma and promote equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. The programme began with children presenting their handmade gifts to guests, followed by a vibrant cultural performance showcasing their talents.

Chairperson Dr Oimang Megu, in her address, shared insights on cerebral palsy—its causes, symptoms, and the critical role of early intervention—along with her personal journey as a parent and her determination to work in the field to bring about positive change.

Bandhana Deori, IRS (retd), expressed her appreciation for the initiative and inaugurated a ‘Spider-case’ facility designed for children with special needs. She was joined by Mumne Moyong and Omily Borang, who contributed stationery and treats for the children and staff.

A key highlight was an informative presentation by Dr Kapong Modi (PT) on Down syndrome, emphasizing awareness and early support systems. Children were also provided with visual routine and behaviour charts to aid their development.

The programme concluded with a strong message: disability does not define potential. Through such initiatives, H-Spring Integrated School continues to foster awareness, compassion, and a more inclusive society, the report added. (DIPRO)
