West Kameng reviews road safety measures at district-level meeting

Bomdila, Mar 26: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was convened here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner of West Kameng district.

During the meeting, the DC carried out a comprehensive review of the district’s road safety scenario, covering aspects such as the licensing system, existing road infrastructure, public awareness initiatives, enforcement mechanisms, emergency response systems, and parking management.

Emphasizing preventive measures, he directed all road construction and maintenance agencies to identify accident-prone locations across the district and ensure installation of appropriate road furniture and signage to enhance commuter safety.

The Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) was instructed to intensify road safety awareness campaigns in schools to inculcate responsible behaviour among students from an early age.

Key issues such as sinking roads in Bomdila, lack of trauma care facilities, and drainage-related challenges were also discussed, with directions issued for timely and coordinated action by the concerned departments. The meeting concluded with a call for stronger inter-departmental coordination to ensure safer roads and improved traffic management across the district.

The meeting was attended by key officials including the Superintendent of Police, District Medical Officer, Executive Engineers of PWD, RWD and UD & Housing, DDSE, District Transport Officer, Divisional Forest Officer (Bomdila), Officers Commanding of 91 RCC, 97 RCC and 90 RCC, OC Bomdila Police Station, District Planning Officer, and District Disaster Management Officer, among others.
