ITANAGAR, Mar 26: The DBT-APSCS&T Centre of Excellence for Bioresources and Sustainable Development (CoE for BRSD), Kimin successfully organized a symposium on ‘Applications of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in Various Fields of Life Sciences’ at Roopland Public School, Rupa in West Kameng district today.
Organized by the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Centre (BIC) under the CoE for BRSD and sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India, the programme is part of a series of outreach and awareness initiatives undertaken by the Centre across Arunachal Pradesh to promote understanding of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and their interdisciplinary applications in various life sciences fields.
Dr Debashis Panda, Scientist-B and Project Investigator (BIC), CoE for BRSD, Kimin, highlighted the growing relevance of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in addressing contemporary scientific challenges and emphasized their role in harnessing the rich bioresources of the State.
Bhakta Kanta Mishra, Principal Roopland Public School, underscored the importance of scientific awareness among students.
Ratan Subba, Branch Manager, SBI Rupa, Tsering Thongdok, former Managing Director State Cooperative Apex Bank, and Dr R D Khrime, former Director Health, also shared their perspectives on the relevance of science and education in regional development.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Tsering Pentsom, Assistant Commissioner Rupa, emphasized the importance of integrating emerging scientific disciplines such as Biotechnology and Bioinformatics into education and development frameworks to build future-ready human resources.
The technical sessions featured informative presentations by experts from the CoE, Kimin.
The first session, delivered by Senggam Wakhet, research officer, focused on an introduction to biotechnology and its applications across various fields of life sciences. This was followed by a session on Bioinformatics and its applications by Abhichandan Das, Project Associate.
The second technical session was conducted by Dr Debashis Panda, who elaborated on the convergence of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology in modern life sciences, highlighting their integrated role in advancing research and innovation.
The symposium witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members of Roopland Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tenga Valley, Govt Hr Sec School, Rupa and nearby institutions, providing them with valuable exposure to emerging scientific domains and career pathways in life sciences.
