Itanagar, Mar 27: As part of the ongoing Pan-India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign, the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), West Kameng, conducted an extensive drive against child and adolescent labour across the district.
The campaign was led by the Deputy Director-cum-District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) along with the District Labour Officer-cum-Nodal Officer under the Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986. The team also included the Protection Officer, Legal-cum-Probation Officer, counsellor, and police personnel.
The drive commenced from Padma under Dirang circle on March 19 and concluded at Jameri point on March 26, covering key areas of the district.
During the drive, a total of 19 children were rescued from various establishments. The individuals found employing them have been directed to appear before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Bomdila for further assessment and necessary action.
Officials informed that all major establishments, including hotels, schools, homestays, garages, and factories, were thoroughly inspected as part of the campaign.
The initiative aims to curb child labour and ensure rehabilitation and protection of vulnerable children in the district.
