Itanagar, Mar 29: In a swift and coordinated effort, the Deomali Forest Division rescued a one-month-old Himalayan black bear cub, which was found stranded in an agricultural field at Borduria village under Deomali sub-division in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The rescue operation was initiated on March 26 after local residents, Ponpong Ruttum and Wanghon Lettey, alerted the Forest Department about the distressed cub. Responding promptly, a team from the Borduria Forest Range led by Range Forest Officer (RFO) Diwang Lowang reached the site and safely took the animal into the custody of the department under the supervision of the Divisional Forest Officer, Deomali Forest Division.
After providing initial care, the cub was handed over to Dr Panjit Basumatary, veterinarian at the Centre for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation (CBRC), Pakke Tiger Reserve, on March 28 for further treatment and rehabilitation. The transfer took place at Namsai in the presence of officials from the Namsai Forest Division.
Appreciating the role of villagers, RFO Diwang Lowang commended their timely action and urged the public to support wildlife conservation by avoiding activities such as poaching and habitat destruction.
Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang also lauded the villagers for their prompt response, highlighting the importance of community participation in protecting wildlife.
The Forest Department reaffirmed its commitment to conservation and appealed to citizens to report wildlife-related incidents to authorities without delay.
