Itanagar, Apr 1: The Naharlagun Police has arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered heroin during a swift and well-coordinated anti-drug operation on Monday last.
Acting on credible information, a police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, Inspector K Dev, along with SI Vivek Linggi, head constable K Samyor, constables AY Dangngo, Sanu Raj T, and lady constable W Lowang, carried out the operation. The operation was conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate Khoda Bath and under the supervision of Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Dr Nyelam Nega.
The accused, identified as Tajar Taji (30), a resident of Dumporijo in Upper Subansiri district, was apprehended from his rented accommodation.
During the search, police seized 19 vials containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 24.64 grams (including vial weight), one plastic pouch containing suspected heroin weighing around 5.26 grams (including pouch weight), 132 empty vials, and nine used syringes.
A case has been registered at Naharlagun Police Station vide NLG/PS/C.No. 35/26 under Sections 21(b), 27, and 29 of the NDPS Act. The accused has been arrested, and further investigation is underway, police said.
Police reiterated its commitment to intensifying the crackdown on drug trafficking and urged the public to cooperate by sharing credible information to curb the menace of drugs in society.
