Mein inaugurates Buddha Vihara at Nongtaw Khamti

ITANAGAR, Apr 1: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Wednesday inaugurated the Dhammachakkya Buddha Vihara at Nongtaw Khamti in Namsai district, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner C R Khampa.

Addressing the gathering, Mein highlighted the deep cultural significance of traditional manuscripts, scriptures, and indigenous knowledge systems preserved over generations. He noted that revered texts such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata, written in native scripts, form an invaluable part of the community’s heritage.

Emphasising the need for preservation, he called for collective efforts to safeguard, digitise, and translate these manuscripts into English to ensure their accessibility for future generations and a wider audience.

The Deputy Chief Minister also encouraged scholars and community members to actively contribute to conserving the region’s linguistic and cultural legacy, drawing inspiration from national initiatives aimed at protecting India’s manuscript heritage.

Describing the newly inaugurated Vihara as more than a place of worship, Mein said it stands as a symbol of commitment to preserving cultural identity and promoting peace, learning, and continuity of traditions for generations to come.
