Rogue elephant captured in Sunpura, relief for residents: MLA Mohesh Chai

Itanagar, Apr 5: A rogue elephant responsible for two fatalities in Sunpura area has been successfully captured, bringing relief to residents of the region, informed Tezu MLA Dr Mohesh Chai on Sunday.

The operation was carried out with the support of a team of wildlife experts from Karnataka in coordination with officials of the Forest & Environment Department.

Expressing gratitude, Dr Chai thanked the expert team, forest officials, and the state government for their coordinated efforts in ensuring the success of the operation. He also acknowledged the support of Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and the Environment & Forest Minister in facilitating the mission.

Earlier, the legislator visited the site along with senior forest officials, including the Chief Conservator of Forests (Eastern Zone), Conservator of Forests, and Divisional Forest Officer of Tezu Division, to review the ongoing operation. He stated that the elephant had been identified and cornered before being captured, and will now be relocated to a suitable location away from human habitation.

The MLA expressed hope that the successful operation would restore a sense of safety and normalcy among the people of the affected areas.
