Itanagar, Apr 5: The vibrant Mega Mopin celebration in Namsai on Sunday brought together communities from across Arunachal Pradesh, reflecting the state’s rich cultural heritage and spirit of unity.
Participating in the mega festival celebration, Chief Minister Pema Khandu extended warm greetings and expressed appreciation for Galo elders and youth for preserving their indigenous traditions, culture, and faith. He said the festival reflects the spirit of unity in diversity, with participation from various communities showcasing Arunachal Pradesh’s shared heritage.
Highlighting the significance of the festival, Khandu said, “Mopin is not just a festival, it is a celebration of our rich indigenous heritage, reflecting the deep-rooted traditions, values, and collective spirit of the Galo community.”
He also joined the community in offering prayers to Mopin Ane for peace, prosperity, and well-being for all.
The Chief Minister also took part in the traditional Popir dance during the celebrations, describing it as a vivid expression of cultural richness.
Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who also attended the event along with Minister Balo Raja and other dignitaries, termed Mopin a celebration of culture & traditions, nature, and community. Rooted in the reverence for Mopin-Digo Ane, the festival symbolises prosperity, protection, and harmony, he said.
Mein highlighted this year’s theme, “Unity in Diversity,” stating that participation from communities such as Tai Khamti and Singpho reflects the deep-rooted harmony that defines the state.
On the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister also paid tribute to late C P Namchoom for his role in introducing Mopin celebrations in Namsai, which has grown into a symbol of cultural unity.
Both leaders called upon people to preserve their traditions and strengthen bonds of unity, harmony, and brotherhood, while praying for peace, good health, and prosperity for all.
“From the graceful Popir dance to the sacred chants of the Nyibus, every moment reflects our rich heritage and timeless traditions. Let us continue to preserve our culture, strengthen our unity, and celebrate our diversity with pride,” Mein appealed.
