BJP rejects Cong demand for CM’s resignation, backs due process

Itanagar, Apr 7: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arunachal Pradesh, on Tuesday rejected the demand by the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee seeking the resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu over a Supreme Court-directed preliminary inquiry into alleged allotment of public contracts.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Itanagar, BJP chief spokesperson Mutchu Mithi, along with MLA Topin Ete and party spokesperson Tobom Dai, termed the Congress’ demand as “politically motivated and misleading.”

The party clarified that the Supreme Court of India has only ordered a preliminary inquiry and no findings of wrongdoing have been established so far. It stressed that due process of law must be respected and any call for resignation without proven charges is premature and against the principles of natural justice.

The BJP further stated that a preliminary inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation is merely a fact-finding exercise and not a final investigation. It reiterated that the Chief Minister has welcomed the inquiry and assured full cooperation.

Criticizing the Congress, the BJP accused the opposition of attempting to gain political relevance by misinterpreting the court’s observations and spreading misinformation. It also alleged that certain vested interests are trying to disrupt developmental activities in the state.

Reaffirming its support for Khandu’s leadership, the party said his tenure has been marked by transparency, accountability, and development-oriented governance, contributing to progress in infrastructure, connectivity, and public welfare.

The BJP emphasized its commitment to clean governance and zero tolerance towards corruption, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and urged the opposition to act responsibly and uphold democratic values.
