APSTS to celebrate its Golden Jubilee at Khonsa

ITANAGAR, Apr 7: Arunachal Pradesh State Transport Services (APSTS) is set to celebrate its Golden Jubilee with a three-day programme beginning May 29 at Khonsa in Tirap district, marking its 50 years of dedicated service as a vital public transport lifeline in the State.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu will attend the inaugural function, while the valedictory event will be graced by Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

Established on December 5, 1975, with just two buses operating from Khonsa, APSTS has grown into a fleet of more than 100 buses, connecting various parts of Arunachal Pradesh and extending services to neighbouring states such as Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

Over the decades, APSTS has played a crucial role in connecting remote and far-flung regions, especially during a time when private vehicles were scarce. It has helped people access education, healthcare and economic opportunities, while serving as a trusted mode of transport across the State’s difficult terrain.

The Golden Jubilee celebration will commemorate five decades of continuous service, public trust and expanding connectivity. Government officials, transport authorities, employees and local residents are expected to take part in the event.

Programmes such as felicitation of retired and serving staff, cultural performances and exhibitions highlighting the evolution of transport services in the State are likely to be part of the celebrations.

Officials said the occasion will also focus on APSTS’ future plans, including fleet modernization, improved safety and better passenger convenience.
